The Financial Markets Advisory (FMA) business delivers a range of advisory services including sustainability, capital markets, portfolio construction and data & analytics solutions to official sector and financial institution clients globally. We support our clients on their most critical and complex financial issues – from managing the low carbon transition of the economy and financial sector, to unwinding portfolios of assets, to crafting and executing institutional programmes to support the economy, for example through bond purchase programmes or investment frameworks to mobilise private capital investment.

We leverage the firm’s sophisticated sustainability, capital markets, data & analytics, and technology capabilities to deliver impact-oriented advisory services.

About the Role

We are looking to recruit a well-qualified Director – Middle East to join FMA, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role may also be performed from London, UK, with extensive travel to the Middle East.

This position will play a key role overseeing and driving the advisory work of the group in the Middle East, including project execution, as well as idea generation for new business opportunities, relationship management, business development, advising clients on strategy and positioning, and driving innovative investment collaborations with international investors based in or focused on the Middle East. It also includes providing strategic advice including on investment & risk management approach and processes, sustainability and climate risk related topics, and team and culture building.

Externally, your role will include engagement with key stakeholders across the region’s financial services, infrastructure development, and public sector ecosystems. Internally, you will leverage BlackRock’s unparalleled capabilities across Infrastructure Investing, Capital Markets, Aladdin, Research, and other core functions.

Key Responsibilities

Areas of focus include:

  • Exemplify BlackRock’s fiduciary culture of providing the highest quality service and work product to our clients

  • Direct and manage large, multi-disciplinary project teams incorporating teams of subject matter experts, data and analytical experts, researchers, and generalists

  • Lead engagement design and planning by serving as the central point of contact for multiple projects simultaneously, defining deliverable structure and content, and developing timelines

  • Serve as a primary liaison for day-to-day interactions with clients, including executive-level stakeholders

  • Play a hands-on role in client project execution by creating and driving content and problem solving, performing quantitative analysis, serving as a thought leader and providing solutions-based advice for our clients

  • Actively contribute to business development and relationship management in the Middle East, working alongside the broader team to conceive, develop, and market innovative solutions for new and existing client

  • Formulating and developing actionable initiatives to catalyze private sector infrastructure investment, including thematically-driven investment ideas and structures

  • Interacting with BlackRock and client senior management teams, industry participants, regional, and international bank lenders, local and international developers, and other investment professionals.

  • Act as a leader, mentor, and coach to colleagues, driving project management and providing guidance on project work.

Knowledge/Experience

  • 10+ years of investment or corporate banking, strategy consulting, advisory, or investment experience in infrastructure markets.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and strategic mindset, with ability to establish trusted advisor relationship with senior executives.

  • Experience with, and / or deep understanding of, development finance and concessional investment frameworks, and investment analysis, due diligence, and transaction approval processes. Understanding of global and regional capital markets.

  • Experience in emerging markets and specifically the Middle East, including network of senior client relationships

  • Genuine passion for the subject matter and a self-determined drive to achieve superior performance

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and intellectual curiosity

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a diverse, cross-functional team

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex ideas into clear messages

  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment

  • Strong quantitative and technical skills, including knowledge of and passion for finance, markets and/or sustainability concepts

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to assume additional responsibilities and embrace innovative challenges

Our hybrid work model

BlackRock’s hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration and apprenticeship that enriches the experience of our employees, while supporting flexibility for all. Employees are currently required to work at least 3 days in the office each week, with the flexibility to work from home up to 2 days a week; some business groups may require more time in the office due to their roles and responsibilities.
